Rabbi Finds Poker Loophole

SportingLife Poker 12 Nov -- The Torah may prohibit gambling professionally, but for  a Jewish community at the Temple Beth Shalom, Texas Hold'em is on the cards.

The Jewish religion is quite explicit: gambling is out. But remove the greed factor, and we're just playing cards!

Rabbi Harry Manhoff of Temple Beth Sholom has created the environment where even orthodox Jews can enjoy a game of poker. A local Texas Holdem tournament will dish out prizes to the winners, all in the name of a little community-building.

Texas Holdem events have been used to raise money before, but this is the first time the tourney was opened up to the community and awarded prizes.
