SportingLife Poker 19 Nov -- A 19-year-old university student probably won't be back at his part-time supermarket shelf-stacking job for long after cashing in the final table win in an Adelaide poker tournament, claiming $96,000 (£41,687) along with it!
The sick part about Daniel Booth's success story is that he's only been playing poker seriously for about 5 months.
The first-ever Adelaide Holdem Championship took place at the Skycity Casino, and amongst the players was Australian Joe Hachem.
With a prize pool of nearly $340,000, everyone was playing hard, including the handful of international guests who joined the proceedings.
Booth won his seat through a number of regional poker tournaments.
"I never dreamed I would win this tournament especially since I was up against so many of the world's best," he said on NineMSN.com.au. "I've only recently started playing poker and taking it seriously since the poker league started in Adelaide pubs and hotels in June of this year."
2005 World Series of Poker winner Hachem was busted on Saturday, but stuck around for the presentations.
"It's fantastic that such a young man who is playing his first live poker tournament for cash triumphs," he said.
Booth was back at work for double-time shift on Sunday.
