The Crown Australian Poker Championship, or "Aussie Millions" is the biggest poker tournament in the Southern Hemisphere. The tournament is staged annually at the Crown Casino complex in Melbourne, Australia. Crown Casino is the largest casino and poker room in Australia.
Poker at the Crown was first introduced in June 1997 with the first major championship, then known as the Australasian Poker Championship. The main event was a $1,000 buy-in Limit Holdem tournament that attracted 74 entries with a $74,000 prize pool.
In January 2005, the "Aussie Millions" reached new heights, with a record 263 participants paying $10,000 each to enter the No Limit Hold'em main event, generating the biggest prizepool ever in the Southern Hemisphere of $2,630,000.
In 2006 it was even bigger with Lee "Final Table" Nelson, a regular on the Australasian poker tournament circuit, took away the main event prize and a cool $1.43 Million. Lee was no stranger to victory though having won Pot Limit/No Limit Speed Poker and the Seven Card stud events at the 2005 Crown Australian Poker Championship. The 2006 Aussie Millions Poker Championship is still his biggest win ever where he beat a field of 417 to take down the main prize.
This year's 2007 Aussie Millions tournament is happening in Melbourne, Australia from January 14 19, 2007.
