WSOP - WSOP Qualification StrategyOther ConsiderationsAdded IncentivesSome sites offer extra cash on top of the prize pool. For instance, most will give their satellite winners a $10,000 buy in to the WSOP plus a few thousand dollars for travel and hotel expenses. Some sites offer hotel rooms as part of the package and others offer hotel rooms in exchange for wearing their logo on your clothing in the tournament. This may be something to bear in mind before you start. Interestingly Chris Moneymaker in 2003 sold shares of his potential winnings to his family and friends in return for money for hotel rooms and food. He went on to win, a handsome return on the loaned money. Quantity of PlayersThe more players there are in a poker site's various satellites, the more seats that will be given away. This is blatantly obvious but can be easily overlooked. Many players may be inclined to simply play the qualifiers at their regular poker site not knowing that other sites may be giving away many more seats than their current site. One thing to note is that if a site guarantees a certain number of seats but does not have enough players to cover the prize pool there will be extra value. See overlays and guarantees below for more information. Overlays & GuaranteesMany sites guarantee a certain number of seats in their tournaments. If a site guarantees one seat for $10,000 for a $1,000 Single table tournament and has only 5 people show up for the tournament, each player is getting $2000 in value for their buy-in. This situation is known as an overlay on your money and is of obvious benefit if you can find such a situation. If smaller sites offer guaranteed seats in the WSOP there will frequently be an overlay. Scout the site first to see if their previous tournaments have offered overlays.
