Tournament Strategy - Sit & Go Approach

Playing for a Place

Other players play to get in the money, they reason that if they make it to the cash they may claw up another place or two. These players tend to lay low and avoid the action early on in the tournament. They want to avoid the aggressive action that can see them broken out at the beginning of the SNG. The finish-in-the-money player is seeking to shorten their odds by letting the other players take each other out. They reason that if one or two players make a quick exit that significantly this helps their chances. Furthermore, one of the players eliminated early might be a powerful player who just suffered a bad beat, thus leaving a weaker field. A player using this strategy tries to cultivate a tight table image that they can later exploit. Typically these types of players don't gamble in the early stages.

So, what is the best strategy to use? Like most decisions in poker the answer is, "It depends". The style you should use is aggressive, you're aiming to win, but always be selectively aggressive. Your style should also depend on situational requirements
