Tournament Strategy - Freeroll Strategy
Introduction
"Gambling is the quickest way to get nothing for something" - Wilson Mizner
The concept of freerolls definitely turns this notion on it's head; for the first time you can get something for nothing. Mmm... well sort of.
The world of freerolls is not a lonely place; literally thousands of people want a slice of the action. They are certainly a fun way to learn poker; they're free to enter and the multi table tournament (MTT) experience will improve your tournament game. However the competition is vast and frantic, so expect large variations in where you'll finish.
Unless you know how to play your cards and your opponents in a freeroll and get lucky don't expect to consistently finish in the money. Against another 3000 players, you have to play a good game. In addition, you're going to need to know how to compensate for the maniac type of play that is highly usual in a freeroll. Without this knowledge, you might win a few dollars in a freeroll now and then with a day of excellent cards, but with it you could turn the long freeroll hours into a more consistent profit.
