Buy-Ins & Blinds

Buy In

Deciding on amount to play for should be done beforehand; all players should know what the original buy in is, and whether rebuys are available before they arrive at the game. This way when they turn up, they’ll have an estimate how much they could win, but more importantly how much they could potentially lose. For instance if you were expecting a £30 freeze out and it changes to a £10 rebuy tournament you could be forgiven for feeling quite angry because you only have enough for two rebuys.

Blinds

The levels of the blinds dictate the pace of the game. There's a fine balance between slow blind levels, so that there’s a long slog spent waiting for the player out first, and blinds doubling so rapidly that it takes the skill out of the game and becomes nothing but a game of chance. Strike a balance between the two; perhaps 20-30 minutes would suffice for a full table. Make sure you enforce the increase blinds by using a cooking timer or alarm. They'll always be short stacks who whinge, but you can't argue with a timer!
